Avast and AVG are two of the most popular antivirus programs on the market. However, who actually owns the companies behind these programs?

Avast was founded in 2004 by Janus Friis, while AVG was founded in 1995 by Russian entrepreneur Yuri Milner. Friis sold Avast to Intel in 2009 for $3.

2 billion, while Milner sold AVG to security software company Symantec in 2012 for $2.5 billion.

Therefore, while Avast and AVG are both popular antivirus programs, their actual ownership is a bit murky. This may change in the near future, as both companies are currently in the process of being bought by another company.
