According to the company’s website, Surfshark “does not track users’ online activity beyond what is necessary to provide a quality user experience.” The company also does not store user logs. However, this claim has been disputed. In December of 2017, an independent researcher discovered that Surfshark did, in fact, keep track of user activity and store logs.

The company responded by stating that the logs were only kept for six months and that they were only used to improve the user experience. However, this explanation was not satisfactory to many people, as it did not fully answer the question of why the logs were kept in the first place. In light of the controversy, Surfshark has since changed its policy and will now only store user logs for six months. However, it is still unclear as to why the logs were kept in the first place.
