DLP can protect data in three ways: physical, logical, and virtual.

Physical protection means protecting the physical medium on which the data is stored. This can be done by encrypting the data or storing it on a tamper-resistant device.

Logical protection means protecting the data by ensuring that it is stored in a secure location and that no unauthorized person can access it.

Virtual protection means protecting the data by ensuring that it is not actually stored on a physical medium, but rather is only accessible through a secure connection.
