There is much speculation as to whether or not DLP is required under HIPAA. Some experts feel that it is not necessary, while others feel that it is a must. At the end of the day, it is ultimately up to the individual privacy officer (IPO) to make the call on whether or not DLP is necessary for HIPAA compliance. Generally speaking, DLP is an important tool for protecting patient privacy, so it is likely that HIPAA compliance would require its use in some cases.

However, it is important to note that HIPAA does not require DLP for all medical information. In fact, HIPAA does not require the use of DLP for any type of health information.
