When discussing VPNs, many people think of them as forward proxies. That is, VPNs work as a layer of security between your computer and the internet.

They encrypt all of your traffic and send it through a remote server. This server then acts as your proxy, forwarding all of your traffic to the websites and servers you want to visit.

Others believe that VPNs can also function as a reverse proxy. That is, VPNs can be used to transparently connect your computer to the internet. This means that your computer will act as a proxy for the websites and servers you visit.

This is great for privacy and security reasons. By connecting to a remote server, you are protecting your computer from malicious software and hackers.
