A DNS server is a computer system that provides the addresses of services on the Internet. Without a DNS server, a computer cannot resolve the names of Internet services, and may not be able to access those services.

A DNS server is usually located on a public network, such as the Internet. When you type a Web address, your computer contacts a DNS server to look up the address.

If there is no DNS server present, your computer will not be able to find the address and will display an error message.

If your computer cannot contact a DNS server, you may not be able to access the Internet.
