Domain Name System (DNS) is a hierarchical naming system for computers and other devices on the Internet. The Domain Name System is divided into two major parts, the Domain Name System Protocol (DNS) and the Domain Name System Zone File.

DNS is implemented as a set of general-purpose components and protocols, which allows network administrators to query for the name of any resource on the Internet.

A DNS domain is a subdivision of the overall DNS namespace. It is a hierarchical naming system for computers and other devices on the Internet. A DNS domain is a collection of names, each of which corresponds to a unique IP address.

A DNS domain can be registered with a DNS provider, such as Verisign. A DNS domain can also be administered by a network administrator on their own system.
