Host-based firewalls are designed to protect systems and networks from attacks that originate from the host computers on which they are installed. The software looks at the individual computer’s IP address and compares it to a list of known host addresses known to be associated with malicious activity.

If the IP address on the computer matches one of the known bad addresses, the firewall may block access to the computer or the network.

Host-based firewalls can be a useful firewall solution, but they have several limitations. First, they are not as effective as network-based firewalls at protecting systems from attacks that originate from outside the network.

Second, host-based firewalls are not as effective at protecting against attacks that originate from inside the network. Third, host-based firewalls can be disabled or bypassed by malicious users.
