A proxy server is a computer system that acts as an intermediary between two or more networks. When a user connects to the Internet, the proxy server extracts the necessary information from the user’s request and forwards it to the requested destination on the Internet.

In other words, the proxy server acts as an “address translator.”.

Proxy servers are often used by individuals and businesses who have difficulty accessing certain websites or who want to protect their privacy. For example, a person living in a country where the government is restrictive about Internet access may use a proxy server to access websites that are not available in their country.

Likewise, a business may use a proxy server to protect its employees’ privacy by hiding their actual IP addresses.

Proxy servers are also used to bypass content filters or censorship. For example, many schools and businesses use proxy servers to access websites that are blocked on their internal networks.
