Windows VPN Connection Name is a feature in Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2016 that allows you to assign a name to a virtual private network (VPN) connection.

When you create a new VPN connection, Windows will automatically assign the connection a name based on the configuration of the remote gateway. This name can be helpful in identifying the connection when you are managing your VPN connections or troubleshooting VPN problems.

When you connect to a VPN, Windows will use the name you assigned to the connection to identify the VPN connection. This name can be displayed in the Network and Sharing Center, in the list of active connections, and in the Network Connections window.

The name you assign to the connection is also used to identify the connection in the VPN client software that you use.

To rename a connection, open the Network and Sharing Center, select the connection, and click Properties. In the General tab, click the Name button.

Type a new name for the connection in the Name box, and click OK.
