A DNS server is an essential piece of your network infrastructure. It provides a mapping between hostnames and IP addresses, so that computers can communicate with each other.

When it comes to choosing a DNS server, there are a few factors to consider. The first is the type of DNS service you need.

There are two main types of DNS services: primary and secondary.

Primary DNS service.

A primary DNS service is the default DNS service offered by your ISP. When you set up your computer, it usually registers with your ISP’s primary DNS server.

This means that whenever you try to access a website, for example, your computer will first contact the primary DNS server and ask for the website’s IP address.

If your ISP doesn’t offer a primary DNS service, you can still use a primary DNS server. You can install a DNS server on your own network and configure it to act as your primary DNS server.

Secondary DNS service.

A secondary DNS service is a DNS service that you can use to manage your own DNS servers. If you have a large network, you may want to set up your own secondary DNS servers so that you can better control your network traffic.

When you use a secondary DNS service, your computer will connect to the secondary DNS server first. The secondary DNS server will then lookup the IP address for the website.

There are a few different types of secondary DNS services. Some services allow you to set up your own DNS servers.

Other services allow you to use a third-party DNS server.

When you choose a DNS server, you also need to consider which provider you want to use. There are a few different providers available, but the two main providers are Comcast and Google.

Comcast.

Comcast is one of the major providers of Internet services in the United States. Comcast offers a wide variety of DNS services, including both primary and secondary DNS services.

When you use Comcast’s DNS services, your computer will connect to their DNS servers first. Comcast’s DNS servers will then lookup the IP address for the website.

If you want to use Comcast’s DNS services but you don’t have a Comcast account, you can use their DNS servers without an account. However, you will have to enter your IP address each time you want to access a website.

Google.

Google is one of the world’s largest providers of Internet services. Google offers both primary and secondary DNS services.

When you use Google’s DNS services, your computer will connect to their DNS servers first. Google’s DNS servers will then lookup the IP address for the website.

If you want to use Google’s DNS services but you don’t have a Google account, you can use their DNS servers without an account.

Both Comcast and Google offer DNS services with a variety of different pricing plans. If you need a primary or secondary DNS service, either provider is a good choice.
