Proxy servers are widely used in networks, both for their inherent security benefits and for their ability to forward traffic to other servers. In a typical network, a proxy server is located between the user’s computer and the network.

This allows the proxy server to act as an intermediary, filtering and forwarding requests and responses as necessary.

In Mac OS X, proxy servers can be accessed through the Network settings in System Preferences. The network settings will display a list of available proxy servers, as well as the type of proxy server (HTTP, SOCKS4, or SOCKS5) and the port number.

To use a proxy server, select it from the list, click the Options button, and enter the appropriate information.
