When you want to connect to a website or other remote computer, your computer contacts a DNS server to resolve the address. DNS servers are used by all modern operating systems, including Windows.

To check what DNS server is currently being used, open “cmd.exe” and type “ipconfig /all”. If you see an entry for “Default-First-Site-Name”, then you are using the default DNS server. If you do not see an entry, then the DNS server is likely not installed or not enabled. To install the DNS server, visit the Windows Server website and follow the instructions. To enable the DNS server, open “Network and Sharing Center” and click “Change adapter settings”.

In the “Network and Sharing Center”, click “Network and Internet Protocols”, and then click “TCP/IP”. In the “TCP/IP” window, click ” properties ” and then click “default gateway”. In the “Default gateway” window, click “add”. In the “Add TCP/IP gateway” window, type the IP address of the DNS server and click “OK”.
