When you want to join a computer to a domain, but the computer’s DNS name does not exist, you can use Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) to create a new DNS name for the computer. First, install AD DS on the computer. Then, open Active Directory Domain Services, and select the domain in which you want to create the new DNS name. In the left pane, under Servers, select the Computers node.

In the right pane, under Domain Name Servers, select the DNS server that you want to use. On the General tab, under DNS Server Settings, click New DNS Name. In the New DNS Name dialog box, type the new DNS name for the computer, and then click OK. AD DS will create the DNS record for the computer with the new DNS name.
