DNS servers are responsible for translating domain names, such as www.example.com, into IP addresses.

When a user types in a domain name, their computer contacts the DNS server to resolve the name. If the DNS server doesn’t have a record for the domain name, it will ask other DNS servers for help.

If the DNS server doesn’t receive a response from any of the other DNS servers, it will assume that the domain name isn’t currently being used and will return the IP address for the DNS server that holds the record for the domain name.

If the DNS server can’t resolve the domain name or if the IP address that it returns is incorrect, it will send a message to the user’s computer indicating that it couldn’t find the requested domain name.
