A proxy server is a computer system that sits between the user and the Internet. The proxy server assumes the role of the client, requesting resources from the Internet, and the user’s computer assumes the role of the server, providing resources to the proxy server.

Proxies can be configured to act as a transparent proxy, a reverse proxy, or a load balancer.

A proxy server can be useful for a variety of reasons. For example, a proxy server can be used to circumvent content filtering or censorship measures that are in place in certain workplaces or schools.

A proxy server can also be used to improve the privacy of the user’s online activity.

A proxy server can be used to connect to the Internet from a location that is not easily accessible, such as behind a firewall. In addition, a proxy server can be used to connect to the Internet from a location that has limited or no connectivity, such as inside of a virtual private network.
