Domain controller DNS (DC DNS) is a feature of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and later that allows a DNS server on a domain controller to act as a primary DNS server for the domain. The domain controller can also provide secondary DNS services for other DNS servers in the domain.

When a user attempts to resolve a name using a DNS server outside the domain, the domain controller can use its database of domain records to provide the answer.

DC DNS allows the domain controller to act as a single point of contact for the domain. This saves the time and effort that would be required to replicate the domain controller’s database of domain records to other DNS servers.

Additionally, DC DNS can be used to add security measures to the domain. For example, a domain controller with DC DNS can be used to authenticate users who attempt to resolve domain names.

DC DNS has the following benefits:

It allows a domain controller to act as a primary DNS server for the domain.

It provides secondary DNS services for other DNS servers in the domain.

It can be used to add security measures to the domain.
