Domain name system (DNS) is a hierarchical naming system for computers, phones, and other devices. DNS loads webpages and other documents from a central server, rather than from the individual devices.

A domain name is a unique name assigned to a particular organization or company. All devices on the network use the same DNS server to resolve domain names.

A domain controller is a server that stores the Active Directory database and manages the user accounts, group accounts, and computer accounts in a domain. Domain controllers also provide support for directory replication, security, Group Policy Management, and auditing.
