The Domain Name System (DNS) is a network of computers that translates human-friendly domain names like www.quizlet.com into the IP addresses that computers use to communicate with one another.

When you type in the name of a website, your computer sends a request to the DNS server for the website’s IP address. The DNS server then looks up the website’s address in its database and sends back the IP address.

The DNS is important because it allows you to easily find the website’s address even if you don’t remember the website’s name. For example, if you want to watch a video on YouTube, you type in YouTube’s address into your web browser and the browser automatically sends a request to the DNS server for the YouTube website’s IP address.

The DNS server then looks up the YouTube website’s address in its database and sends back the IP address.

The Domain Name System is also important because it allows you to easily change the website’s address. For example, if you want to move your blog to a new website, you can change the website’s address in the Domain Name System’s database.

The new website’s address will then appear in web browsers when you type in the website’s name.

The Domain Name System is a vital part of the internet and it helps you to easily find and use the websites that you want.
