An authoritative DNS server is the topmost DNS server in the hierarchy for a specific domain name. This server is responsible for resolving DNS queries for that domain name.

There are two main types of DNS servers: primary and secondary. A primary DNS server is the first DNS server that a client contacts when trying to resolve a DNS query.

A secondary DNS server is a DNS server that is used as a backup for a primary DNS server.

Authoritative DNS servers are usually primary DNS servers. They are the most reliable and fastest DNS servers for resolving DNS queries.
