When you install a new Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 computer, the default network location is set to “Public.

” This means that the computer contacts the primary DNS server for all its DNS needs. If your primary DNS server is not configured as the default, you may be unable to connect to the Internet or access certain websites.

Under the “Network Connections” section, click the “Advanced” button. Under the “Network Connections” heading, click the “Address Resolution Protocol” link.

In the “Address Resolution Protocol” dialog box, select “DNS.” In the “Advanced options” dialog box, select “Use the following DNS server addresses.

Open the “Default Gateway” dialog box. In the “Default Gateway” dialog box, select the “Local Area Connection” adapter.

In the “Local Area Connection” dialog box, click the “Properties” button. Under the “Internet Protocol Version 4” heading, select “Use the following DNS server addresses.” Enter the DNS server addresses of your primary DNS server in the “DNS.
