In theory, a DNS record can point to another domain. In practice, however, this is not very common. A DNS record is usually associated with a particular domain name. For example, the DNS record for the website www.example.com would be a record for the domain name “www.

com.” If someone tried to lookup the IP address for www.com, the DNS server would return a record for the IP address of the server that is hosting the www.com website.
