DNS is the Domain Name System, which is a system that enables computers to find each other by their IP addresses. When you type in a website address, such as www.google.com, your computer looks up the address in the DNS server.

The DNS server returns a list of IP addresses that correspond to the website. To use the DNS server, you need to know the IP address of the DNS server. .

To find the IP address of your DNS server, open the control panel. In the control panel, under System and Security, click Network and Internet. In the Network and Internet window, under Network connections, click Local Area Connection.

In the Local Area Connection window, under Properties, click the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP) subnet mask link. The IP address of the DNS server is listed in the IP address field.

To use the DNS server, you also need to know the DNS domain name. To find the DNS domain name, open the control panel. In the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP) Properties window, under General, click the DNS tab. The DNS domain name is listed in the DNS server field.
