DNS is the Domain Name System. It is a hierarchical, distributed database of domain names and their corresponding IP addresses.

When you type a domain name into your browser, your computer queries a DNS server for the IP address associated with that domain name.

DNS is an essential part of the Internet. It allows computers on the network to easily find each other by name.

Without DNS, computers would have to remember each other’s IP addresses, which is not feasible.

DNS also helps protect your computer against malicious attacks. If someone were to try to access your computer using your domain name but without the correct IP address, your computer would not be able to find the attacker and would not allow the attack to continue.

DNS is a critical part of the Internet and should be maintained and updated regularly. If you are having difficulty accessing a website or your computer is not responding as expected, it is probably because your DNS is not up to date.
