DNS MX Records are used to specify the mail exchange server (MES) for your domain. If you’re using a hosted email service, like Gmail or Yahoo, then your hosting company will take care of setting up MX records for you.

If you’re using a self-hosted email service, then you’ll need to set up MX records yourself.

When you create an MX record, you specify the primary mail server for your domain. This server is responsible for handling all incoming email for your domain.

If your hosting company sets up MX records for you, they’ll also set up A records for your domain. A record tells your hosting company’s mail server where to find your domain’s email addresses.

You can also use MX records to specify secondary mail servers. If your first mail server goes down, your hosting company can redirect all of your email traffic to your second mail server. You can also use MX records to route mail to specific users.

For example, you might have a user account named “Admin” and you want all of your email sent to that account through your first mail server. You can set up an MX record for “Admin” and specify your first mail server as the SMTP server for that record.
